Rādhā is the beloved of Kṛṣṇa among the cowherd women of Vraja. For many Vaiṣṇava traditions, especially the Gauḍīya, Nimbārka and Vallabha schools, she is Kṛṣṇa's own inner power, the hlādinī śakti, and the highest model of loving devotion (bhakti).

Her love for Kṛṣṇa is sung in Jayadeva's Gītagovinda, in the Brahmavaivarta Purāṇa and in countless songs of Vraja. Her birthday, Rādhāṣṭamī, falls fifteen days after Janmāṣṭamī, and her village Barsānā is famous for its Holi celebrations.
