Choosing the right Sanskrit word

Sanskrit often has several words for one English idea, each with its own shade of meaning. "Peace" can be the śānti of a calm mind or the sandhi of a treaty between kings. The first words listed are the most general; open a word in the Sanskrit to English dictionary to see its full range before you use it in a name, a tattoo or a design.

Translating sentences

The tool translates word by word. To build a correct Sanskrit sentence, each word needs the right case ending and the words must be joined by the rules of sandhi. Learn both in the grammar lessons, step by step.
