Reṇukā was the wife of the sage Jamadagni and the mother of Paraśurāma, the sixth avatāra of Viṣṇu. The Mahābhārata and the Purāṇas tell how she was slain at her husband's command and brought back to life by her son's devotion, and she is worshipped as a powerful mother goddess.
She is honoured as Yellammā at Saundatti in Karnataka, as Reṇukā at Māhūr, one of the śakti-pīṭhas of Maharashtra, and as Ekavīrā by many communities of the Konkan coast.
