The Panchakshara, the five-syllable salutation to Shiva, preceded by the pranava Om, and among the most widely recited of all Shaiva mantras. Its single line is repeated on a mala, murmured during abhisheka and puja, or held silently in the mind; it is chanted daily and with particular devotion on Mondays and at Mahashivaratri.
