Verse 1

विदिताखिलशास्त्रसुधाजलधेमहितोपनिषत्कथितार्थनिधे ।हृदये कलये विमलं चरणंभव शङ्कर देशिक मे शरणम् ॥१॥

viditākhilaśāstrasudhājaladhemahitopaniṣatkathitārthanidhe |hṛdaye kalaye vimalaṃ caraṇaṃbhava śaṅkara deśika me śaraṇam ||1||

O ocean of the nectar of all the śāstras, treasure-house of the meaning taught in the great Upaniṣads, I hold your pure feet in my heart: O teacher Śaṅkara, be my refuge.

Verse 2

करुणावरुणालय पालय मांभवसागरदुःखविदूनहृदम् ।रचयाखिलदर्शनतत्त्वविदंभव शङ्कर देशिक मे शरणम् ॥२॥

karuṇāvaruṇālaya pālaya māṃbhavasāgaraduḥkhavidūnahṛdam |racayākhiladarśanatattvavidaṃbhava śaṅkara deśika me śaraṇam ||2||

O ocean of compassion, protect me, whose heart is tormented by the sorrows of the sea of birth; make me know the truth of all the systems of philosophy: O teacher Śaṅkara, be my refuge.

Verse 3

भवता जनता सुहिता भवितानिजबोधविचारण चारुमते ।कलयेश्वरजीवविवेकविदंभव शङ्कर देशिक मे शरणम् ॥३॥

bhavatā janatā suhitā bhavitānijabodhavicāraṇa cārumate |kalayeśvarajīvavivekavidaṃbhava śaṅkara deśika me śaraṇam ||3||

Through you the people have found their good, O you of beautiful mind who inquire into the knowledge of the Self; make me know the distinction between God and the soul: O teacher Śaṅkara, be my refuge.

Verse 4

भव एव भवानिति मे नितरांसमजायत चेतसि कौतुकिता ।मम वारय मोहमहाजलधिंभव शङ्कर देशिक मे शरणम् ॥४॥

bhava eva bhavāniti me nitarāṃsamajāyata cetasi kautukitā |mama vāraya mohamahājaladhiṃbhava śaṅkara deśika me śaraṇam ||4||

Knowing that you are Śiva himself, my heart is filled with wonder; dry up my great ocean of delusion: O teacher Śaṅkara, be my refuge.

Verse 5

सुकृतेऽधिकृते बहुधा भवतोभविता समदर्शनलालसता ।अतिदीनमिमं परिपालय मांभव शङ्कर देशिक मे शरणम् ॥५॥

sukṛte'dhikṛte bahudhā bhavatobhavitā samadarśanalālasatā |atidīnamimaṃ paripālaya māṃbhava śaṅkara deśika me śaraṇam ||5||

Only through many good deeds does one gain the longing to see all as one through you; protect me, who am very helpless: O teacher Śaṅkara, be my refuge.

Verse 6

जगतीमवितुं कलिताकृतयोविचरन्ति महामहसश्छलतः ।अहिमांशुरिवात्र विभासि गुरोभव शङ्कर देशिक मे शरणम् ॥६॥

jagatīmavituṃ kalitākṛtayovicaranti mahāmahasaśchalataḥ |ahimāṃśurivātra vibhāsi gurobhava śaṅkara deśika me śaraṇam ||6||

To save the world, great souls wander in disguise; among them, O guru, you shine like the sun: O teacher Śaṅkara, be my refuge.

Verse 7

गुरुपुङ्गव पुङ्गवकेतन तेसमतामयतां नहि कोऽपि सुधीः ।शरणागतवत्सल तत्त्वनिधेभव शङ्कर देशिक मे शरणम् ॥७॥

gurupuṅgava puṅgavaketana tesamatāmayatāṃ nahi ko'pi sudhīḥ |śaraṇāgatavatsala tattvanidhebhava śaṅkara deśika me śaraṇam ||7||

O best of gurus, whose banner bears the bull, no wise one is your equal; loving to those who come for refuge, treasure of truth: O teacher Śaṅkara, be my refuge.

Verse 8

विदिता न मया विशदैककलान च किञ्चन काञ्चनमस्ति गुरो ।द्रुतमेव विधेहि कृपां सहजांभव शङ्कर देशिक मे शरणम् ॥८॥

viditā na mayā viśadaikakalāna ca kiñcana kāñcanamasti guro |drutameva vidhehi kṛpāṃ sahajāṃbhava śaṅkara deśika me śaraṇam ||8||

I have not known even one branch of learning clearly, and I have no wealth at all, O guru; quickly show me your natural compassion: O teacher Śaṅkara, be my refuge.
