Verse 1

नागेन्द्रहाराय त्रिलोचनायभस्माङ्गरागाय महेश्वराय ।नित्याय शुद्धाय दिगम्बरायतस्मै नकाराय नमः शिवाय ॥१॥

nāgendrahārāya trilocanāyabhasmāṅgarāgāya maheśvarāya |nityāya śuddhāya digambarāyatasmai nakārāya namaḥ śivāya ||1||

To Him who wears the king of serpents as a garland, the three-eyed one, whose body is smeared with sacred ash, the great Lord; eternal, pure, clothed in the directions: to that Śiva, the syllable ‘na’, salutations.

मन्दाकिनीसलिलचन्दनचर्चितायनन्दीश्वरप्रमथनाथमहेश्वराय ।मन्दारपुष्पबहुपुष्पसुपूजितायतस्मै मकाराय नमः शिवाय ॥२॥

mandākinīsalilacandanacarcitāyanandīśvarapramathanāthamaheśvarāya |mandārapuṣpabahupuṣpasupūjitāyatasmai makārāya namaḥ śivāya ||2||

To Him anointed with the waters of the Mandākinī and sandal paste, Lord of Nandī and the pramathas, worshipped with mandāra and many flowers: to that Śiva, the syllable ‘ma’, salutations.

शिवाय गौरीवदनाब्जवृन्द-सूर्याय दक्षाध्वरनाशकाय ।श्रीनीलकण्ठाय वृषध्वजायतस्मै शिकाराय नमः शिवाय ॥३॥

śivāya gaurīvadanābjavṛnda-sūryāya dakṣādhvaranāśakāya |śrīnīlakaṇṭhāya vṛṣadhvajāyatasmai śikārāya namaḥ śivāya ||3||

To the auspicious one, the sun that makes Gaurī’s lotus face bloom, destroyer of Dakṣa’s sacrifice, the blue-throated one whose banner bears the bull: to that Śiva, the syllable ‘śi’, salutations.

वसिष्ठकुम्भोद्भवगौतमार्य-मुनीन्द्रदेवार्चितशेखराय ।चन्द्रार्कवैश्वानरलोचनायतस्मै वकाराय नमः शिवाय ॥४॥

vasiṣṭhakumbhodbhavagautamārya-munīndradevārcitaśekharāya |candrārkavaiśvānaralocanāyatasmai vakārāya namaḥ śivāya ||4||

To Him whose head is worshipped by Vasiṣṭha, Agastya, Gautama and the great sages and gods, whose eyes are the moon, the sun and fire: to that Śiva, the syllable ‘va’, salutations.

यक्षस्वरूपाय जटाधरायपिनाकहस्ताय सनातनाय ।दिव्याय देवाय दिगम्बरायतस्मै यकाराय नमः शिवाय ॥५॥

yakṣasvarūpāya jaṭādharāyapinākahastāya sanātanāya |divyāya devāya digambarāyatasmai yakārāya namaḥ śivāya ||5||

To Him who took the form of a yakṣa, who wears matted locks and holds the Pināka bow, the eternal, divine God clothed in the directions: to that Śiva, the syllable ‘ya’, salutations.

पञ्चाक्षरमिदं पुण्यं यः पठेच्छिवसन्निधौ ।शिवलोकमवाप्नोति शिवेन सह मोदते ॥६॥

pañcākṣaramidaṃ puṇyaṃ yaḥ paṭhecchivasannidhau |śivalokamavāpnoti śivena saha modate ||6||

Whoever recites this holy hymn of the five syllables near Śiva attains Śiva’s realm and rejoices with Śiva.
